Short Bio

First Go 'Round is a traditional gospel bluegrass band from Lunenburg, Virginia. Founded in 2014, they've honed their craft with an eye toward Christ, blending classic hymns with a traditional bluegrass drive.

Brent Hood sings lead and plays banjo. He's VP at Hood Brothers Automotive, a third-generation family business in Lunenburg, VA, and is a deacon at Northside Gospel Chapel. He and his wife Leigh have one daughter.

Matthew Kelly sings tenor and plays guitar. He and his family (wife Stephanie and seven kids) attend Eureka Baptist Church. He owns Bringleton's Coffee House in South Hill and travels preaching as The Caffeinated Evangelist.

Rob Sadler sings baritone and plays mandolin. He and his wife Tamra serve at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where he has been a deacon and worship leader. He operates RLS Construction and spent several years traveling with Sandy Creek Gospel Bluegrass.

Bryan Hood sings bass and plays bass. He works at Hood Brothers Automotive as well, and spent a short time as the bass player for Appalachian Express including an appearance on Song of the Mountains.

They've released two full-length albums — First Go 'Round (2019) and Dry Bones Baptist Church (2024) — and have shared stages with The Churchmen, Chosen Road, Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, the Kevin Prater Band, and the Kody Norris Show.

“First Go ‘Round is unique. Their music is Bluegrass Gospel. Their effort is sincere to lift up the Lord through song, be a blessing to the saved, and a witness to the lost.”

Reagan Riddle
“Having been singing gospel music for over fifty years how well I remember our ‘first go around’. All we were concerned about was singing and lifting up Jesus. I believe First Go ‘Round is striving for the same goals: singing and playing and being a blessing to others.”
